Lac du Flambeau Candidate Forum will NOT include Treasurer candidates

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods regretfully announces the cancellation of the Treasurer portion of the Lac du Flambeau Candidate Forum.  The Candidate Forum will take place as scheduled at 9:30 am - 10:30 am at the Lac du Flambeau Public School (2899 WI 47) on Saturday, March 23rd. Two of the candidates for Town Supervisor will be participating - Gloria Cobb and William J. Stone Sr.  The incumbent, Chris Mayer did not respond. William McCutchin will be visiting a seriously ill friend, recently admitted to hospice, who lives down South.

The incumbent Treasurer, Irene Messinger, had initially confirmed her participation, but has since cancelled for unexpected personal reasons. This would leave only one candidate, Stacey Stone, participating in the forum for the Treasurer office, like the Town Chair office, a so-called “empty chair” debate. All candidates for Treasurer, Town Supervisor and Chairperson were notified of the date for the proposed Candidate Forum during the last week in January. Invitations were extended the day after the the Primary Election.

League-sponsored candidate forums are subject to compliance with regulations for the Federal Election Commission, the Federal Communications Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service; as well as League of Women Voters guidelines.  The common guiding principle is that there be fair and impartial treatment of all candidates, with nothing that promotes or advances one candidate over another.

The candidates in the April 2nd Spring Election are: Town Chairman: Carl Edwards and Matt Gaulke (incumbent); Town Supervisor: Gloria Cobb, Chris Mayer (incumbent), William McCutchin, and William J. Stone, Sr.; and Town Treasurer: Irene Messenger (incumbent) and Stacey Stone.
