“Considering the National Popular Vote”

Did you know that the only two elected officials in this country who are not chosen by popular vote are our national President and Vice President?  How did this happen? No, this wasn't the result of careful deliberation and wise decision making at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. Instead, it resulted from the 19th century, partisan, political maneuvering.  Sound familiar?

All this makes an enticing story that will unfold on January 14, at high noon during the monthly meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW), at the Tomahawk Public Library (300 W. Lincoln Av in Tomahawk).  Dr. Dorothy Skye, President of the LWVNOW and currently serving on the National Popular Vote Committee with the Wisconsin League of Women Voters, will help us to understand the history of this important part of our elections, what the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is and how it is permitted by our Constitution.  You'll also find out how you can help bring about the National Popular Vote to ensure that your vote for President counts as much as anybody else's. All are welcome to attend. It will be a “Brown Bag” meeting, so bring your lunch!
