The February meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) will be a joint meeting with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) of the Northwoods. The meeting will begin at the Pine Lake Town Hall with dessert at 12:30 PM. This will give us a chance to visit with members of both AAUW and the LWVNOW. At 1 PM our program will begin with presenters Dr. John Sample, Superintendent of Merrill Area Public Schools, and Brian Dasher, Finance Director for the Merrill Area Public Schools. We will learn the difference between charter schools and voucher schools. What impact do these have on public education funding? Why are so many school districts having referendums to keep their districts running? What are alternate ways of funding education? Bring your questions about school funding and learn about current funding options
For those who would like to enjoy a meal together before this meeting reservations will be made at the Rhinelander Pub and Cafe in downtown Rhinelander for 11:15 AM. Those attending this lunch will order off the menu. Please let Louise Schotz (llschotz@aol.com) know by Friday, February 1, if you will be #1 at the meeting and #2 coming to the pub for lunch. This meeting is open to the public. Please bring anyone interested in this topic.
