Informational Program: A Citizen’s Guide to Participation in the Wisconsin State Legislature

The May meeting of the League of Women Voters - Northwoods (LWVNOW) will take place Tuesday, May 14, 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Oneida County Department on Aging (ADRC of the Northwoods), 100 W. Keenan Street, in Rhinelander. The meeting will focus on key ways citizens can participate in the Legislative Branch of government. Learn how to follow bills through the legislative process and find out who is lobbying for or against legislation and how much money they are spending.

The Joint Finance committee has held four public hearings around the state, listening to Wisconsinites share what is important to them in the upcoming Governor’s 2019-21 Biennial Budget. The meeting discussion will teach you to use the WI Legislature website (legis.wisconsin.gov) to become a more informed and engaged citizen. We will use the 2019-21 budget by Governor Evers to see how the legislative Joint Finance committee moves the legislation forward, or not. The public is welcome and all are encouraged to bring their questions and ideas.

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods encompasses Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties. Our local league belongs to the state and national League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process.  Our monthly meetings and sponsored events are open to all.
